Supermassive Games only just announced its next horror game The Quarry and now the team has released footage of its first 30 minutes. The extended gameplay demo sets up two of its characters and its general gameplay formula.
According to the video from IGN, it’s still very recognizable as a Supermassive game, as it has its array of quick-time events and choices that are pretty close to what players have seen in the Dark Pictures Anthology or Until Dawn. It also appears to have a fixed camera angle during the parts that give players direct control over their character, which is something the Dark Pictures games slowly moved away from. These parts have players walking around gathering certain clues or collectibles that may provide backstory or even help during stickier situations. There was even a tarot card, which could be the collectibles that yield premonitions like Until Dawn‘s totems and the framed pictures in the Dark Pictures games.

The demo kicks off with Siobhan Williams’ Laura and Skyler Gisondo’s Max. The duo is driving to the camp before running into car trouble and getting sidetracked. And since it’s a horror game, some of those distractions aren’t quite as harmless as they seem.
This hefty chunk of gameplay comes only two months before its June 10 release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S and it already has more footage than the game Supermassive announced last year, The Devil in Me. That next Dark Pictures installment is likely going to come out sometime in 2022, but the developer has not said either way. It has only confirmed some general plot details and that Jessie Buckley would be its lead actor.
