Capcom showcases Monster Hunter Wilds at Sony’s State of Play
Capcom showcased the game during Sony’s recent State of Play event. Monster Hunter Wilds players take the role of a professional monster hunter accompanying an expedition into the Forbidden Lands. The trailer focused on a region called the Windward Plains, a vast expanse of desert and grasslands. Monsters include the small, wivern-like Dalthydon, horn-backed Ceratonoths, massive, lion-like Doshaguma, and armored, frog-like Chatacabra.
Fortunately, the Hunter has a variety of tools with which to take these creatures down. All 14 of the series’ iconic weapons return in Moster Hunter Wilds, now with new features. The game also introduces new raptor-like mounts called Seikrets, which players can use in exploration and combat. The Hunter can equip two weapons for mounted combat and toggle between them on the fly. Seikrets can also guide players to locations and let them sharpen weapons and gather resources on the move.
Players won’t venture into the wilds alone. The Hunter’s is accompanied by a Palico, a combat companion from the series’ cat-like Felyne race. Meanwhile, the hunter’s handler, Alma, sends the player on hunts and joins them on quests, while the blonde blacksmith, Gemma, offers weapon and armor crafting. Finally, there is the mysterious child Nata. Capcom hasn’t revealed much about him, but he’s clearly very important to the story.
