Is Drew Carey Leaving The Price Is Right?

Fans are asking why Drew Carey is leaving The Price Is Right after reading about his thoughts on retiring from the game show. The comedian replaced Bob Barker as The Price Is Right host more than a decade ago and he has hosted the game show through all of the daytime broadcasts since then as well as The Price Is Right at Night shows in primetime. Carey was born in May 1958, so he’s getting up in age as far as TV hosts go, though Barker was in his mid-eighties when he retired. Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak retired this year at the age of 77 to be replaced by Ryan Seacrest in fall 2024. Here’s whether Drew Carey is really retiring from The Price Is Right.

Is Drew Carey retiring as The Price Is Right host?

No, Drew Carey is not retiring as the host of The Price Is Right or at least not in the near future.

In a June 2024 interview with TVInsider, Carey was asked whether he had any thoughts about when he would retire from the show. He stated, “I want to keep going until I die. This is my 18th season. I’ve got to get the 35 and 41 so I can catch Bob Barker and Pat Sajak.” In fact, he “can’t imagine giving it up” and notes that being the host is the longest amount of time he’s had the same job at 10 years, one year longer than his run on The Drew Carey Show.

That said, Carey also said that contact negotiations to remain the host of The Price Is Right will be in a few years, so it’s possible that something happens where he retires then. Just to keep CBS on its toes, he assured that he could quit being a host at any time.

How long has Drew Carey been hosting The Price Is Right?

Drew Carey has been hosting The Price Is Right since November 2007, so he’s had the job for over 16 years.

Carey was the brief game show host of Power of 10, which also aired on CBS in 2007. He was then approached by CBS to see if he would be interested in replacing Bob Barker, and after initially declining the offer, he accepted the role. In fact, Carey beat out other candidates for host, including Mario Lopez and Todd Newton.
