Did Alan Ritchson Audition to Play Thor? Why Didn’t He Join the MCU?

Fans are wondering if Alan Ritchson auditioned to play Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If yes, then why the Reacher star did not join the MCU? Here is all you need to know.

Did Alan Ritchson audition to play Thor?

Yes, Alan Ritchson auditioned to play Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a new cover story for Men’s Health, Alan Ritchson confirmed that he auditioned for the lead part in 2011’s Thor. He claimed he did not take the audition process seriously and said:

“I was like, ‘They’ll throw me the part if I look like the guy; nobody really cares about acting.’ ”

The Reacher star later revealed that after the audition process, the casting team came up to his representatives and told them Ritchson did not have “the craft” to take on the role of Thor in the MCU. As fans know, the role of Thor eventually went to Australian actor Chris Hemsworth.

The Men’s Health cover story further stated that Ritchson was so troubled by the rejection that he started taking acting classes with Deborah Aquila, The Shawshank Redemption’s casting director. Eventually, he booked small roles in shows like Black Mirror, New Girl, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine and went on to work in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014), and DC’s Titans, all of which helped pave the way for his success in Reacher.

Why didn’t Alan Ritchson join the MCU?

Alan Ritchson did not join the MCU as he lost out on the role of Thor due to not taking his audition process seriously.

Although he did not get a chance to play Thor in the MCU, Ritchson has dabbled in the superhero world in a few DC projects. He played Aquaman in several episodes of Smallville and also featured as Hank Hall/Hawk in DC’s 2018 show Titans.
