There has been outrage on social media since fans discovered that someone attacked beloved actor Steve Buscemi in New York. Buscemi has deep ties to the city as he was a New York City firefighter in the early 1980s. Following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, he also volunteered at his old job for a week. Understandably, fans are wondering who punched Buscemi and whether the actor has recovered since the incident.

Who punched Steve Buscemi in New York?
Buscemi’s alleged attacker has been described as a bearded man who was sporting a baseball cap, a blue t-shirt, and black sweatpants that day. In photos taken from security cameras, the apparent perpetrator could also be seen wearing white sneakers. Although the NYPD has put out these photos, the attacker’s identity remains unknown to the public. The attacker fled the scene following the incident and no arrest has been made yet.
The incident took place around 11:48 a.m. on May 8, near 369 Third Ave. in NYC, and is still being investigated. In a statement to The Post, the actor’s publicist revealed, “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city.”

According to his publicist, Buscemi is “OK and appreciates everyone’s well wishes.” Following the incident, Buscemi had swelling on his face and around his left eye. He was subsequently admitted to Bellevue Hospital.
