One Piece 3D2Y: Is It Canon & What Does It Mean?

Is One Piece 3D2Y canon? What does it mean and after which episode are you supposed to watch it? Fans of the series might have reached this part of the story that happens during the time skip. Here is a guide on One Piece 3D2Y.

Is One Piece 3D2Y canon?

One Piece 3D2Y: Overcome Ace’s Death! Luffy’s Vow to his Friends is not canon.

It’s a 15th-anniversary TV special that happens in the middle of the time skip, before the Straw Hats meet again at Sabaody Archipelago. It is set sometime during the two-year period when Luffy is training in Rusukaina with Rayleigh. The TV special runs for around an hour and 47 minutes and includes a post-credits scene.

A common sentiment among One Piece fans is that there’s never enough content. Even though the series has over a thousand chapters and episodes, some fans just want more of their favorite characters. So, even if 3D2Y isn’t canon, it’s still worth checking out, especially if you want to see more of Luffy’s training during the time skip.

What does 3D2Y mean in One Piece?

The “3D2Y” written on Luffy’s arm was his message to the Straw Hats. Instead of meeting up again in three days (3D), they were meeting in two years (2Y). This is why 3D was crossed out.

This was during the Post-War Arc and the Summit War Saga. During this two-year period, the Straw Hat Pirates trained in order to get stronger for the New World.

After which episode does One Piece 3D2Y take place?

Even though One Piece 3D2Y takes place around Episodes 516-517, it’s recommended that you shouldn’t watch it immediately after this. The TV special contains spoilers involving Fishman Island and Dressrosa, so it’s best to watch it after around Episode 663 and beyond.

The spoilers involve some of Luffy’s new moves and a character reveal.
