In Star Wars: The Acolyte Episode 3, the audience is given a glimpse of Osha and Mae’s childhood on Planet Brendok, surrounded by a coven of Force-sensitive witches. Things change when the Jedi arrive and announce that they know the coven is hiding children who can manipulate the Force. According to Mother Aniseya, the leader of the Coven, Brendok is not part of the Galactic Republic. As the Jedi don’t dispute this, her statement appears to be true. This makes the presence of the Jedi on the planet a mystery.
Here are the reasons why the Jedi visit the planet in The Acolyte Episode 3.
Why are the Jedi on Brendok in Star Wars: The Acolyte Episode 3?
As of episode 3, the Jedi haven’t offered an actual explanation as to why they came to Brendok. When the witches ask them why they are there, the Jedi claim that they didn’t know that the planet was inhabited. Aniseya evidently doesn’t believe this. Being a person who can tap into the Force, she implies that the Jedi already knew that her coven now considered Brendok their home.
While this hasn’t been confirmed yet, it’s possible that the Jedi were sent to investigate the coven. Perhaps, they knew about the presence of the children in the coven even before they reached the star system. If that’s the case, someone may have supplied them with this information. Alternatively, the entire thing could have been orchestrated by the mysterious individual who would eventually become Mae’s master.

The members of the coven have enjoyed their lives in peace for years. The arrival of the Jedi seems to set off a chain of events. Osha announces that she wants to join the Order, much to the dismay of her twin and the coven. Just when they are trying to figure things out, all the adult witches die in a fire. Osha blames Mae for what happened, while the latter is convinced that the Jedi were responsible. For years, both believed that the other one was dead.
Their experience on Brendok impacted the lives of the Jedi as well, and each of them has found a different way to cope with their past. In the coming episodes, we will likely learn the actual reason for the Jedi’s presence on Brendok.
