Netflix’s Japanese BL Dating Show The Boyfriend Episode 3 Ending: Will Dai & Shun Get Together?

Netflix’s new Japanese BL dating show The Boyfriend aired episodes 1 to 3 on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 4 p.m. KST. The series features nine men as cast members who spend a month together in a shared house while looking to find love and form meaningful connections. The first set of episodes introduced eight cast members, with new contestants appearing at regular intervals.

The ending for episode 3 of The Boyfriend documented one of the most solidified relationships until now. University student Dai and artist Shun both formed a deep connection, but that wasn’t without their issues. Shun worried about Dai’s past, which affected their relationship. While the episode started on a high for the two, it ended on a major cliffhanger with Shun indicating that he’d read something troublesome about Dai. Viewers will have to wait and see how their journey unfolds.

Netflix Dating Show The Boyfriend Episode 3: Dai & Shun’s date ends on a major cliffhanger

The first set of episodes 1 to 3 of the Netflix dating show The Boyfriend introduced viewers to a total of eight cast members – Dai, Gensei, Shun, Taeheon, Ryota, Kazuto, Usak, and Alan. Throughout the three episodes, they became acquainted, shared deeply personal stories, and formed connections. One of the stronger connections this week was between Dai and Shun.

Dai confesses his feelings for Shun

While most of the cast members kept their initial feelings to themselves, Dai was instantly attracted to Shun, and he made them very evident. He went for dinner with his girlfriends, where he confessed to liking Shun and also resolved to get together with him. Dai’s attitude became very popular amongst fellow cast members, but he only had eyes for Shun.

During one of the early cast members’ dinners together, Dai made up a game where the loser would have to confess who they liked to the person they trusted most in the group. Dai took this as an opportunity to confess his feelings directly to Shun. He wrote Shun’s name on his phone and handed the phone to Shun himself to see it. Meanwhile, the latter was extremely happy to read his name.

Shun proceeds to have feelings for Dai

Although Dai confessed his feelings first, Shun opened up as time went on. The cast opened up their coffee truck, which they named “Brewtiful U.” Each day, one of the cast members was chosen to run the truck. They could choose one partner to accompany them. Dai chose Shun as his partner as the two spent some time together after business day. Shun told Dai about his relationships, teasing some tension in his previous relationships as well.

Shun’s feelings only grew stronger with time. In another round of the same game that the men played previously, Shun confessed to liking Dai to castmate Ryota. Ryota also liked Shun but preferred not to become a burden on the latter emotionally. Shun told Ryota about how he found a few of Dai’s actions charming when he had previously found them annoying.

Shun makes an unexpected discovery about Dai

As the two spent time together, Shun found inappropriate pictures of Dai that the latter had used for dating apps. This immediately concerned Shun, and he broke down over the discovery. Shun revealed that he’d faced the same situation in a previous relationship, where his ex turned out to be a player. Shun had decided that he wouldn’t face the same relationship ever again, so being in this situation only made it worse for him. However, Dai comforted him by confessing to making him feel safe all the time.

Although Shun avoided Dai initially, he chose Dai as his partner to run the coffee truck. The two eventually grew closer as they flirted with each other after a business day.

Dai and Shun’s relationship grows more intense

After Alan’s arrival, Dai seemed frustrated over a discussion when Shun went to comfort him. Dai asked Shun to share what made him the person he is today. Shun revealed that his parents had abandoned him by putting him in an orphanage. He further shared his sufferings for the first 18 years of his life before moving to Tokyo and working hard. This made Dai emotional, as the two only deepened their relationship with a hug.

The same night, the men had to choose a partner to go on a private date. The couple would only be chosen if the feelings were mutual. Dai and Shun chose each other and spent quality time on the date. As Dai expressed his feelings of being content with Shun, the latter only seemed concerned. At the end of episode 3, Shun revealed hearing something bad about Dai, which raised more concerns.

To watch if their connection survives, don’t forget to tune in to The Boyfriend on Tuesday, June 16, 2024, at 4 p.m. KST on Netflix.
