Sweet Home: Was It Canceled After Season 3? Why Is It Ending?

Many people are wondering if Sweet Home has been canceled after Season 3. As a popular Netflix series, Sweet Home has garnered a lot of attention, leading to curiosity and speculation about its future.

For those interested in learning more about why Sweet Home is ending or if there are any plans for a sequel, you can find all the latest information here.

Was Sweet Home canceled after Season 3?

No, Sweet Home was not canceled after Season 3. Following the successful debut of Season 1, it was renewed for two more seasons. However, since the show was planned for three seasons only, it naturally concluded without getting canceled.

Why is Sweet Home ending with Season 3?

The creators always intended for Sweet Home to have only three seasons. The show is ending because the story has been wrapped up.

After the successful debut of Sweet Home Season 1, Netflix announced that the series would continue for two more seasons. Season 2 introduced new characters who receive a meaningful send-off in the final season.

As per Screen Rant, Sweet Home, adapted from a webtoon of the same name, faced a unique challenge. The first season exhausted most of the source material, requiring an original narrative for Season 2. This season successfully built upon established concepts, showcasing the potential of K-dramas to deviate from their source material.

However, the reception of Sweet Home Season 2 was mixed. Some argue that Sweet Home could have functioned as a limited series, with the first season providing a complete story arc. They felt that these changes were not necessary for its continuation. Additionally, while the season was lauded for its impressive monster design and its exploration of human-versus-monster themes, some reviewers criticized the pacing. Despite these issues, the season managed to build suspense and set up an epic war for the finale.

Talking to Maeil Business Newspaper, director Lee Eung-bok expressed mixed emotions, saying, “I’m sad and excited because it’s the last season. Sweet Home 3 is literally a ‘come back home.’ It’s a story of returning home.”

He explained that the story unfolds as characters who were scattered due to the events of Seasons 1 and 2 encounter each other again. “A lot of things come back. Lee Do-hyun will come back, and Songgang will also come back,” he added. Aware of the previous criticism, he said, “I hope the fun comes back.”

All the episodes of Sweet Home Season 3 are now streaming on Netflix.
