The ongoing romantic Chinese drama The Best Day of My Life, featuring Jiang Zhinan and Zhang Jiongmin in the lead roles, released its first set of episodes on July 25, 2024. As seen in the official trailer, the drama tells the story of Xu Mu (Jiang Zhinan), who runs into her high school crush after many years. Episode one of this series focuses on the duo’s unexpected encounter.
In this episode, both Xu Mu and Xie Shi are stopped by the same street interviewer. But they miss each other by a few minutes. Xu Mu later meets up with her blind date, who turns out to be a big snob. She is repelled by his high demands and disrespect towards a waiter. The viewers are acquainted with Xu Mu’s sensible nature when she buys ice for the waiter after she spills hot water on herself.

Then, the episode shows Xu Mu going for dinner with a friend. She gets an earful from her mother for failing one blind date after another. Xie Shi is also at the same diner with his friend. He has taken a transfer to this new city. He is a workaholic who wants to go back to work the very next day. When he goes up to the cash counter, he overhears two girls mention his name. One of the girls mentions that she is over Xie Shi and wouldn’t even recognize him if he stood in front of her. Xie Shi quietly leaves the diner.
Xu Mu reaches her office the next day to find that they have a meeting with a big client. The client company’s newly appointed president, Jiang, is known for being picky and strict. As soon as he walks into the conference room, Xu Mu recognizes him. She is taken back to her high school days when she first met Xie Shi, who had transferred to her school.
How does Jiang Zhinan come across her high school crush?
At the meeting, Xie Shi criticizes the proposal for being repetitive. But Xu Mu impresses him with an alternate proposal. She is eager to see if he can recognize her name, but Xie Shi’s expression stays indifferent. After the meeting, she decides to go up to him and ask. She frankly tells him she had a high school classmate who looked just like him. But after seeing the strange look on his face, she decides to refrain from probing further.
But the thought of Xie Shi being her old friend doesn’t leave her mind. She decides to ask her friend, who also went to the same high school. The friend suggests that Xu Mu click some photos of him and send them to her.
The next day at work, Xu Mu sneaks out of the conference room and clicks some photos of him, then sends them to her friend. Her colleague exposes her accidentally after she logs in from her computer. But Xu Mu cleverly gets herself out of the embarrassing situation. She mentions how Xie Shi is an inspiration to her, and she took his photos to include in her presentation.
What happens in The Best Day of My Life episode 1’s ending?
After work, the duo goes out to have dinner. Seeing Xie Shi grill meat with his left hand, Xu Mu recalls that her classmate was a lefty as well. Now her sole purpose is to make him accept that he is her old friend. Xie Shi picks Xu Mu to accompany him to some shooting spots for work.
Meanwhile, Xu Mu tries one plan after another to expose him. She remembers Xie Shi hated red bean bread, so she buys it for Xie Shi to see if he eats it, but the plan doesn’t fall through. Next, she insists that he ride the cable car, as Xie Shi was afraid of heights. But he sees through her schemes.
