He initially attended Shiz University beside Elphaba and Glinda. He later finds himself in a love triangle involving Glinda and Elphaba’s sister, Nessarose. However, when Nessarose realizes that Boq is using her to connect with Glinda, she feels hurt and punishes him by casting a spell that shrinks his heart. Nevertheless, Elphaba comes to his rescue and in the process, transforms him into Tin Man, ultimately saving his life for good.

While Boq starts as a charming and likable character, his transformation marks a significant shift. Consumed by resentment, he blames Elphaba for his condition, unaware that her intervention saved him. Nessarose manipulates his emotions, deepening his hatred toward Elphaba and he then embarks on a quest to track her down.

Who plays Boq Woodsman / Tin Man in Wicked?

Ethan Slater plays Boq Woodsman, who later becomes Tin Man in Wicked.

Slater is most popularly known for his performance in the musical SpongeBob Squarepants. He began his acting career doing theatrical productions, making his initial debut at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2015’s Claudio Quest play. He appeared in other theatrical plays including Camelot and Baghdaddy, too. In television, he has appeared briefly in hit shows like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Murphy Brown, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
