Lachey serves as the host of Netflix’s dating reality series The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On with Vanessa. The show’s third season debuted on December 4, 2024. In one of its episodes, Lachey spoke about his ex-wife and stated, “I, too, was previously married, divorced.” “So I understand the hurt, the scars that exist from that,” Nick candidly said to a contestant.

The 98 Degrees member continued by pointing out the life he now has with Vanessa Minnillo, “Don’t let your past define your future. What I truly always wanted in my life, which was to have a beautiful marriage and a beautiful family, if I hadn’t retained my belief in that, I wouldn’t have ever realized the beautiful life I have with this woman.” (via E! Lachey has rarely spoken about his and Simpson’s marriage in the years after the divorce. They crossed paths in 1998, and Simpson accompanied Lachey on a tour a year later. The couple parted ways for a brief period in 2001 but got back together. In February 2002, they got engaged.

Simpson shared on her website, “Nick Lachey asked me to marry him in a very romantic way and I said yeeeeeeeeeeeessssss!!! He had been patiently waiting for me to grow up a little (which I needed). And I did! Now my life feels so perfect.” (via People)

Lachey and Simpson exchanged wedding vows in October 2002. Three years later, the couple headed toward divorce, which was filed by Simpson, claiming there were “irreconcilable differences” between them. At the time, Lachey stated in an interview that he was “blindsided” by Simpson’s actions.
