Is Marvel Rivals Free? Does It Have Crossplay & Cross-Progression?

Fans are wondering whether Marvel Rivals is free and if it includes crossplay and cross-progression. This new hero shooter, developed by NetEase Games, allows players to choose from over 33 heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe in unique PvP matches.

Here are all your important questions answered.

Is Marvel Rivals free?

Yes, Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play game.

However, as is the case with most live-service games, the game will have an online store containing various monetized items for purchase.

Does Marvel Rivals have crossplay?

Marvel Rivals has crossplay.

Thus, players who have friends with different gaming platforms can play with and against them in PvP matches.

Is there cross-progression on Marvel Rivals?

Marvel Rivals currently does not have cross-progression.

Thus, players who wish to retain progress earned on multiple gaming devices simultaneously will be unable to do so. Essentially, this means they will need to start the game all over again should they choose to switch between them.

This is rather disappointing as there are bound to be players who have multiple gaming devices and often juggle between them whenever convenient.

The game features over 33 heroes, categorized into multiple classes based on their abilities. These are:

  • Vanguard: Captain America, Doctor Strange, Groot, Hulk, Magneto, Peni Parker, Thor, and Venom.
  • Duelist: Black Panther, Black Widow, Hela, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Iron Fist, Magik, Moon Knight, Squirrel Girl, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Psylocke, Storm, Star-Lord, Winter Soldier, Wolverine, and The Punisher.
  • Strategist: Adam Warlock, Jeff the Land Shark, Luna Snow, Loki, Rocket Raccoon, Mantis, and Cloak & Dagger.

Marvel Rivals is currently available on PS5, PC, MacOS, and Xbox Series X/S.

Unfortunately, the game is not available on mobile devices or Nintendo Switch, and it will remain that way for the foreseeable future. Game director Thaddeus Sasser told Pocket Tactics that “there are no discussions [happening]” about making handheld ports.
