Tony Buzbee Responds to Jay-Z’s Statement After Civil Lawsuit

Tony Buzbee, the lawyer representing the unnamed plaintiff in the civil lawsuit accusing rappers Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, has responded to the “Empire State of Mind” singer’s public statement about the allegations. Notably, it was reported earlier this week that the plaintiff had amended her lawsuit, in which Combs was initially the sole accused, to include Jay-Z’s name.

What did Tony Buzbee say about Jay-Z’s statement?

Buzbee took to X (formally, Twitter) to claim that Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, previously filed a “frivolous” lawsuit against him and his firm using a different name. “Regarding the Jay Z case and his efforts to silence my clients: Mr. Carter previously denied being the one who sued me and my firm,” Buzbee posted. “He filed his frivolous case under a pseudonym.”

The lawsuit claims that Diddy and Jay-Z sexually assaulted the plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, at a Video Music Awards after-party in 2000. The plaintiff was reportedly 13 years old at the time.

“What he fails to say in his recent statement is my firm sent his lawyer a demand letter on behalf of an alleged victim and that victim never demanded a penny from him,” Buzbee continued his post. “Instead, she only sought a confidential mediation. Since I sent the letter on her behalf, Mr. Carter has not only sued me, but he has tried to bully and harass me and this plaintiff. His conduct has had the opposite impact. She is emboldened. I’m very proud of her resolve,” he added.

As per CNN, the lawsuit, which initially referred to Jay-Z as Celebrity A, mentions a similar series of events.

Earlier, Jay-Z released a public statement through the social media handle of his company Roc Nation, vehemently asserting his innocence. On Monday, November 9, Jay-Z’s lawyers submitted a motion asking for the disclosure of the plaintiff’s identity. If she doesn’t do so, they urged the judge to dismiss the case.
