Who Is Tony Buzbee, the Lawyer Opposing Jay-Z?

Tony Buzbee is currently in the news as the lawyer representing the unnamed plaintiff in the civil lawsuit that accuses rapper Jay-Z, alongside fellow rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at an awards after-party. Accordingly, people want to know more about him.

Who is Tony Buzbee?

Buzbee is a Texas-based attorney, who has had an extensive career before the lawsuit against Jay-Z and Diddy.

As per his official website, Buzbee is “the son of a butcher and high school cafeteria worker.” He is a Texas A&M University alum and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. After college, he enrolled in the U.S. Marine Corps and took part in conflicts in the Persian Gulf and Somalia. He was given the position of a Recon officer, charged with duties to lead the Recon Company of the First Marine Regiment. He eventually became a captain and served with enough distinction to receive multiple military accolades, including a Navy commendation medal.

After returning to civilian life, Buzbee graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Houston Law Center. During his time at that college, he served as managing editor of the Houston Law Review.

At the start of his legal career, Buzbee served as a briefing attorney for a federal district judge. He then worked for a litigation boutique before setting up his own practice and firm.

Throughout his career, Buzbee has been involved in several prominent legal cases, including the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, Astroworld Festival Lawsuit, and Deshaun Watson Lawsuits. He is also the lawyer of 120 plaintiffs with allegations leveled against Diddy.

Buzbee’s website states that he “became the trial lawyer he is today by applying the skills he learned in the Marines: comprehensive preparation and ruthless execution.”

Notably, Jay-Z has denied the sexual abuse allegations he is now facing.
