Actress to direct supernatural short
Dunst is turning to directing. That’s Kirsten Dunst to you, the lovely lady making headlines for her return as Mary Jane in Spider-Man 3.
At a recent press junket for Sam Raimi’s third chapter, Dunst revealed she’s going to be dabbling in the supernatural for her first time behind the camera. She’ll be cutting her teeth on a short film for a Glamour magazine experiment in which various actresses – such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston – create live-action vignettes inspired from readers’ short stories submitted to the mag. Dunst, following in her beloved Evil Dead-helmer’s footsteps, is aiming for something that taps into old school chills. She’ll star in the film with pal Michelle Williams.
In chatting with our brawny brother, Superhero Hype, the actress lamented the absence of the more “subtle” horror film. “I really want to make a Roman Polanski-esque ‘Repulsion’ or ‘Rosemary’s Baby.’ But there’s nobody making those movies. ‘The Others’ was the closest you got to it. If I had one dream director it would be Roman Polanski.”
