Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy is slinging straight to Netflix.
Good news for the fans of the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man as the whole trilogy directed by Raimi will soon be available on the streaming service. Released in the early 2000s, Sony’s first foray into Peter Parker’s adventures is still fondly remembered by fans.
When to Watch Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy on Netflix
Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy will be available on Netflix starting at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on Monday, Aug. 1. The first installment debuted in 2002 and saw Tobey Maguire donning the mask of the titular web-slinger. In the story, Spider-Man locked horns with a vicious Green Goblin portrayed by Willem Defoe. The cast also featured Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Cliff Robertson, and Rosemary Harris. Raimi’s Spider-Man grossed over $825 million at the box office, a huge and unexpected success for a comic-book movie. It was also nominated for two Academy Awards, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.

Given the success, Sony Pictures greenlit a sequel that hit the theaters in 2004. In Spider-Man 2, Parker had to deal with Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus. The movie fell short of topping its predecessor at the box office, but it still became the year’s second-highest-grossing film. Critics appreciated the sophomore installment even more than Spider-Man. The appreciation resulted in an Oscar for Best Visual Effects and two nominations for Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing.
The road to Spider-Man 3 was long and fraught with many contractual obstacles. Ultimately, it saw the light in 2007, featuring Spider-Man facing three foes at the same time in New Goblin, Sandman, and Venom. The film is the highest-grossing installment in the trilogy, but it received the same warm reception from fans and critics. Maguire, Dafoe, and Molina reprised their characters in the recently-released Spider-Man: No Way Home.
