FX is Moving Forward With The Strain Season 2

Although FX has yet to make this official, early word is that The Strain is being renewed for a second season. The horror series, based on the novels by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, airs its sixth episode this Sunday.

Global News learned of the renewal because apparently the production is started to stake out shooting locations throughout Toronto for this fall. I suspect we’ll hear from FX about this sooner than later.

The Strain debuted to 8 million viewers and tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Corey Stoll stars as Goodweather; he’s currently gearing up to co-star in Marvel’s Ant-Man. How his schedule on that film will impact The Strain is unclear.

In this week’s episode of The Strain: After warning Kelly to leave the city with Zack ahead of the spreading plague, Eph is arrested by the FBI.  Eichhorst has one final job for Gus, while Setrakian realizes that the coming eclipse is the tipping point for virus infection and the beginning of the end. Teleplay by Justin Britt-Gibson; directed by Peter Weller.
