What happened in Kamal Haasan’s movie?
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is known for the blockbuster Master, Vikram is a sequel to the 1986 film of the same name starring Kamal Haasan. The narrative revolves around an Indian intelligence agent named Vikram (Kamal Haasan). He heads a covert group on a mission to eliminate drug peddlers, smugglers, and corrupt police officers linked to the drug mafia.
The plot kicks off with a vigilante group orchestrating a brutal murder of Karnan (Kamal Haasan), who is the father of narcotics officer Prabanjan. Amar (Fahadh Faasil), the lead of the current Operation Black Squad, delves into the investigation. While doing so, he discovers a vigilante group adamant on eliminating those connected to the drug mafia.
At this point, the narrative weaves a complex web of relationships. The movie then introduces Sandhanam (Vijay Sethupathi) as a drug lord and his boss, Rolex. The latter becomes a pivotal character in the second half of the film.
The narcotics group is linked to the disappearance of containers containing essential raw materials crucial for Sandhanam’s large-scale cocaine production. A group of police officers and stricken individuals pilfered these containers. They systematically target and eliminate the associates of the drug ring, destroying them one by one.
Suddenly, Vikram delivers a seismic revelation, saying that Karnan is in fact Vikram who stages his death at the beginning of the film. Thus, Vikram turns out to be not merely the adopted father of the deceased narcotics officer but his biological father. The intricate plot unfolds the reasons behind Vikram’s decision to keep his true identity hidden due to security threats.
Vikram: What happened to Rolex?
Amar’s investigation further unravels a shocking truth. The police team that commissioned him to catch the vigilante group is tied to the drug mafia. Interestingly, it is led by Sandhanam and Rolex. The cat-and-mouse chase intensifies in the second half of the film as Police Chief Jose and Sandhanam’s team race against time to capture Vikram and his gang members. The climax approaches with an impending showdown.
In a nail-biting sequence, Vikram finds himself cornered by Sandhanam’s team. The film reaches its peak as Vikram not only manages to evade capture but also turns the tables. He nabs Sandhanam and dismantles his criminal empire. The climax is an orchestrated symphony of action, with guns blazing from every corner.
Amar, initially critical of Vikram’s vigilantism, undergoes a moral transformation since he is fueled by personal tragedy, i.e. the brutal murder of his wife. As a result, Amar joins forces with Vikram’s team.
When the dust settles, the film introduces Rolex (Suriya). He is a maniacal drug lord livid over the destruction of his raw materials and gang members. Following this, Rolex’s vendetta sets the stage for a sequel.
