Karthi’s latest film, Japan, is gearing up for its much-awaited OTT release this month. The movie was reportedly a box office success due to its unique style of storytelling and high-octane action sequences.
Raju Murugan wrote and directed the heist action comedy film. It premiered in theaters on November 10, 2023. The film revolves around the notorious thief Japan Muni, who has a unique reputation of publishing his heists as movies. When a theft of 200 pounds worth of jewelry happens, Japan becomes the prime suspect, initiating a cat-and-mouse game between him and the government officials.

Japan Netflix release date & time: When is Karthi’s new Tamil movie coming out?
Japan will premiere on Netflix on December 11, 2023. It will be released in four languages—Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. The film stars Karthi and Anu Emmanuel in lead roles, alongside Sunil, Vijay Milton and Jithan Ramesh. It is produced by S. R. Prakash Babu and S. R. Prabhu under the banner of Dream Warrior Pictures.
Netflix recently took it to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the release of the film. They tweeted, “Intha kadhai-la thimingalam sikkuma sikkadha nu paaka neenga ready ah? #Japan, coming to Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada on 11 Dec!”
Netflix India also shared the news on Instagram with the caption, “WANTED : @karthi_offl for stealing our hearts (and also some jewels along the way) #Japan, coming to Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada on 11 Dec!”
Officially announced in August 2022, Japan’s principal photography began in November and wrapped up by late June 2023. In the same month, the official title of the film was revealed. G. V. Prakash Kumar composed the music for the film, while cinematography was handled by Ravi Varman and editing by Philomin Raj.
The film revolves around whether the thief stole the jewelry or if someone is framing him due to his reputation. Actor Karthi, widely acknowledged as one of the most versatile actors in Tamil cinema, has received acclaim for his comedic roles and timing. Moreover, Japan marked his cinematic return to his comfort zone.
