The Freelancer Part 2 ending: Was Avinash able to save Aliya?

In Part 1 of The Freelancer, Aliya was abducted by Mohsin and taken to ISIS-controlled Syria. When her family friend Avinash learned about her abduction, he guided Aliya in escaping her kidnappers. At the same time, he set out on her extraction mission. Avinash tried to get the CIA’s help, but they wanted to bomb the area, which would endanger Aliya. So before the US airstrike, Avinash went into Syria with a team to rescue Aliya himself.

Towards the end of The Freelancer Part 2, Raghavendra Setu was pursuing Avinash for breaking protocols. But he started empathizing after learning about his personal mission to rescue Aliya from Syria. Avinash needed Raghavendra’s help to stop the US from bombing Aliya’s location. Although Raghavendra was convinced that the US forces were going to abort the bombing mission after he promised them access to ISIS intel, depending on Aliya’s rescue. With the bombing halted temporarily, Raghavendra could make arrangements for Aliya’s extraction while motivating her to escape.

Meanwhile, a doppelganger in Dubai was pretending to be Aliya. This was done to facilitate Aliya’s secret return to everyday life after the rescue, and the doppelganger would resume her own identity.

Did Avinash save Aliya?

Avinash’s team had to overcome a checkpoint on their way to rescue Aliya. On the other hand, Aliya made the mistake of letting another girl, Saiyma, know about her escape plans. This happened because she had brought a bag full of things and was wearing running shoes. Aliya’s action risked leaking the information to the Fazals and ISIS.

The ISIS leader grew suspicious and ordered Mohsin to investigate the girls. So Aliya tried drugging Saiyma so as not to endanger the rescue mission. Still, the drugs were unsuccessful in knocking her out. Instead, Saiyma attacked Aliya and wanted to kill her. Unaware of the current situation, Avinash’s team reached the house, and a girl emerged who Avinash assumed was Aliya but actually wasn’t. So Aliya’s fate remained uncertain due to mistaken identity and Saiyma’s betrayal, which threatened the intricately-laid rescue plans.

Did Aliya return to India?

In the desperation to escape, Saiyma impersonated Aliya. Despite Avinash’s numerous capabilities, he failed to confirm the girl’s identity before extraction. However, during the extraction, Saiyma was killed, which made Avinash realize that Aliya was still trapped. Unaware of the mix-up, the US bombing squad approached while Avinash tried racing back in. Along with his teammate Nadia, Avinash was successful in rescuing Aliya just in time. While fleeing, he also killed Mohsin and Sameer, whose bodies were anyway destroyed by the dropped bomb.

At the end of The Freelancer Part 2, Aliya calls her mother and tells her that she hasn’t returned home yet. This was because ISIS still wanted her dead, as she had inside knowledge of the organization. But she remains an asset to global agencies working against ISIS. However, Aliya’s mother is still vulnerable to being used against her daughter by her enemies. The doppelganger reached the airport to allow the real Aliya to secretly assume her identity and return to her old life in Mumbai.
