Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (aka Goblin) is a 2016 classic romance fantasy K-drama with a captivating ensemble cast. The story revolves around an immortal Goblin and his search for a human bride who can help him to rest in peace.
Gong Yoo portrays Goblin Kim Shin, and Kim Go-Eun stars as his missing soulmate, Ji Eun-Tak. Lee Dong-Wook takes on the role of Grim Reaper Wang Yeo, and Yoo In-Na plays Kim Sun, Goblin’s sister. The final episode begins with Kim Shin proposing marriage to Eun-Tak.
Previously, in episode 15, Eun-Tak pulled out the sword from Kim Shin’s chest, erasing his existence from the world. Unfortunately, when he did return, Eun-Tak had no memory of the Goblin. Nevertheless, she takes time to recall who he was and how they are associated with each other.

In Goblin or Guardian: The Lonely and Great God episode 16, Kim Shin and Eun-Tak begin their wedding preparation. As they are moving towards their happy ending, Grim Reaper Wang Yeo suffers a heartbreak.
After Kim Sun learns about her past connection with Wang Yeo past connection, she struggles to forgive him. So, she decides not to meet him in this lifetime. For context, they were a married couple in their past lives. Unfortunately, Wang Yeo was the reason behind the death of her and her brother Kim Shin.
Returning to the present, she bids farewell on the same bridge the couple had first met. Emotional, Kim Sun tells Wang Yeo, “You will not hear from me. In this life, we will never meet again.” They hug each other before saying their final goodbye.
With the help of Kim Shin and Eun-Tak, Wang Yeo tries to move on with his life. Days begin to turn better as Kim Shin and Eun-Tak finally tie the knot. They begin to enjoy their marital bliss, dreaming of a happily ever after. However, their joy is short-lived when the missing soul (aka the Goblin wife) sacrifices herself to save a group of school students.
Being the Grim Reaper, Wang Yeo was able to foresee that Eun-Tak will die soon. This accident happens when she is on the phone with Kim Shin. Immediately, Wang Yeo brings her to his office, where she learns it was her first life. When Kim Shin appears, they break down in tears, and she apologizes for leaving him so early. Nevertheless, she promises to return to him in her next life.
As she bids farewell to her husband, Eun-Tak says, “I’ll be gone for just a while. I promise. This time, I’ll come to you.” Before leaving, Wang Yeo offers her a tea of oblivion that will make her forget this life. However, she refuses to drink it and walks towards the afterlife.
Goblin ending: Did Gong Yoo & Lee Dong-Wook find their respective lovers?
In the finale of Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, Kim Shin and Wang Yeo dwell in solitude with their lovers gone. Towards the end, the Goblin is the only one left as Wang Yeo also leaves the world after Kim Sun passes away.
After many years, Wang Yeo and Kim Sun are reborn. This time, fate brings them together and gives them their happy ending.
Meanwhile, seasons go by while Kim Shin waits for his wife. One day, he goes for a walk in Quebec when a man tells him to avoid the streets as some Korean students are on a field trip. So Kim Shin spends time at the headstone reading a book. A female student appears behind the headstones, holding a dandelion. As the florets blow away, it is revealed that the student is young Eun-Tak.
She lovingly looks at Kim Shin and says, “I found him.” He turns around and their longing for each other comes to an end. She walks up to him and asks if he remembers her. With tears in his eyes and a big smile, Kim Shin says, “The first and the last Goblin’s bride.”
