Chief Detective 1958: Choi Woo-Sung & Yoon Hyun-Soo on Filming a Detective K-Drama

MBC’s upcoming K-drama Chief Detective 1958 starring Lee Je-Hoon in the lead is buzzing among the viewers. The series also features Lee Dong-Hwi, Choi Woo-Sung, and Yoon Hyun-Soo. However, in a recent interview, the rookie actors expressed their experiences filming the drama. Scroll ahead to further read about it.

The drama is a prequel to the classic K-drama Chief Inspector which ran for 18 years at a stretch in the 1970s era (present at that time). Lee Je-Hoon plays Park Young-Han’s character and shows his life story of how he became an inspector from a mere detective. While he shows all rough and tough in front of the thugs, he usually gets the beatings. The series shows a group of four detectives and their bond. Je-Hoon as Young-Han, Lee Dong-Hwi as Kim Sang-Soon, Choi Woo-Sung plays Kyung-Hwan Cho and Yoon Hyun-Soo as Seo Ho-Jeong.

Chief Detective 1958: Choi Woo-Sung and Yoon Hyun-Soo talk about their characters

While Lee Je-Hoon and Lee Dong-Hwi are the strong pillars of the drama, Chief Detective 1958, Woo-Sung and Hyun-Soo bring a fresh perspective. They are already garnering attention with their acting skills and character arcs. Regarding their experience, Choi Woo-Sung shared as reported in Newsen, “I was familiar with the original ‘Chief Inspector.’ The fact that it was a prequel rather than a reboot or spin-off was appealing. I always wanted to participate in detective dramas, so I became even more greedy. I was honored to join through an audition like this.”

Woo-Sung further added, “I think the charm of the character ‘Cho Kyung-hwan’ is his anti-war beauty. He looks strong and scary on the outside, but in reality, he is a warm and affectionate character. While the existing ‘Investigation Team Leader’ highlighted the skill of the detectives, I tried to capture Cho Kyung-hwan’s immaturity and the resulting dilemma.”

On the other hand, Yoon Hyun-Soo expressed his thoughts about his character. He said, “I was grateful to be able to participate, perhaps because of my earnest heart. When I read the script, I was very excited, and I wanted to go to the scene quickly.” Hyun-Soo further continued about his character in Chief Detective 1958, “Sometimes he is too motivated and makes mistakes, but it was cool to see him working hard for his dream.”

The viewers can expect a good laugh with a lot of action sequences. Chief Detective 1958 is slated to be released on April 19, 2024, at 9:50 p.m. KST on MBC.
