The much anticipated K-drama Uncle Samsik aired its first 5 episodes on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 4 p.m. KST on Disney Plus. Set in 1960s Korea, the series follows the story of an elite idealist, Kim San (Byun Yo-Han), who aims to work for the country’s social and financial betterment. One day, he crosses paths with Park Doo-Chil, fondly known as Uncle Samsik (Song Kang-Ho), who helps him in the mission. Together, they encounter a series of challenges.

Episode 5 of Uncle Samsik laid the foundation for Uncle Samsik and Kim San’s collaboration to bring their vision to life. After Kim San joined the Democratic Party, the duo decided to come up with a plan to defeat Kim Seong-Min. Meanwhile, Kim San arranged for Cha Tae-Min to kill Yang Pal-Bong.

However, that also led to an attack on Joo In-Tae and his subsequent death. Seong-Min’s past, when he worked with Tae-Min to build the Sineui Alliance, also came to the forefront. Will Uncle Samsik’s plan to make Kim San the Prime Minister come true? Or is there more to the story? Will the duo be able to achieve their mission? Only time will tell.

Uncle Samsik episode 5: Song Kang-Ho & Byun Yo-Han continue with their plan

The latest Uncle Samsik episode 5 began with a glimpse into Kim Seong-Min’s past. When he was 16, he met with Ahn Min-Chul, the Liberal Party Assemblyman and Ahn yo-Seop’s eldest son. After witnessing both Min-Chul and his own father Kang Il-Sik’s abuse, Seong-Min decided to create the Sineui Alliance with Cha Tae-Min and others. The alliance was built to oppose the authorities and powers that oppressed people. Their first target was Kang Il-Sik. They killed him using their self-made explosives.

After Kim San joined the Democratic Party as the Head of the Economic Policy Committee, he went to meet his girlfriend Yeo-Jin. Amidst growing support for her father, Joo-Tae, as the candidate for the Innovation Party, she expressed her discontent with Kim San, calling his dream nothing more than hypocrisy. Soon, an attack during the Innovation Party’s rally saw Kim San trying to protect Yeo-Jin when Uncle Samsik took him aside.

Kim San wanted to stop his mission briefly to be together with Yeo-Jin. However, Uncle Samsik then revealed his plans, which made him change his mind. Uncle Samsik aimed to get the National Assembly under the Cheongwoo Federation’s control and appoint Kim San as the Prime Minister instead of Kim Seong-Min. Due to his passion for creating a financially independent country, Kim San chose the mission over Yeo-Jin.

Meanwhile, amidst the attacks on Joo In-Tae and his men, Yong Pal-Bong tried to keep Joo In-Tae safe. However, Cha Tae-Min arrived in time to attack him. After chasing Pal-Bong, Tae-Min managed to shoot at him. However, at that moment, Joo In-Tae came in between and fell prey to the attack. While Pal-Bong died, Joo In-Tae was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. On the other hand, Seodaemun leader Han-Soo lost his fellow leader and friend Koo Hae-Jun.

As people grappled with the attacks, Han-Soo mourned the death of his friend. The following morning, a reporter received a package that contained a photograph of Seong-Min and Tae-Min from when they formed the Sineui Alliance. The press put out a story, implying that Seong-Min would have orchestrated Ahn Min-Chul’s death. The Cheongwoo Federation also demanded to look into the news piece. Ahn Yo-Seop appointed Uncle Samsik to investigate if Seong-Min was indeed behind Min-Chul’s death.

Meanwhile, Seong-Min denied any involvement in Min-Chul’s death or the alliance while speaking with Minister Choi Min-Kyu. He asked Park Ji-Wook to find Tae-Min’s whereabouts. After leaving the meeting, Uncle Samsik felt anxious when Ahn Yo-Seop asked him to look into his son Min-Chul’s death. Given how he was involved along with Seong-Min and Tae-Min, Uncle Samsik had to think on his feet.

Previously, Uncle Samsik’s assistant met Tae-Min and gave him a ticket to go abroad via a cargo ship. However, after the meeting, Jin-Wook cornered Uncle Samsik, and the latter revealed details about Tae-Min potentially leaving the country soon. Ji-Wook then assigned his men to track all the men involved in the Sineui Alliance. Meanwhile, Seong-Min battled against reporters and politicians. Previously, Ahn Yeo-Seop stopped all election campaign transfers to the Liberal Party over suspicions of Seong-Min killing Min-Chul.

Later, Joo In-Tae passed away due to his injuries. At the same time, Kim San visited the press office, where the reporter showed him the photo they had anonymously received of Seong-Min and Tae-Min. He wondered why Tae-Min killed Pal-Bong, guessing that Pal-Bong was somehow related to Seong-Min. On the other hand, Han-Soo remained determined to kill Tae-Min and told Uncle Samsik of the same. The latter, however, gave him a job to do.

Kim San later visited Yeo-Jin, who mourned the loss of her father. She asked Kim San to leave, eventually breaking up with him. Kim San then visited Ahn Yeo-Seop with Uncle Samsik, determined to continue their mission. The episode ended with Kim San at the Defense Unit, where he answered more about Uncle Samsik’s resolve for his mission. Meanwhile, an imprisoned Sam-Sik met with General Jang Doo-Sik, expressing that his plan was not over yet.

All five episodes of Uncle Samsik are available on Disney Plus. Episodes 6 and 7 will air on the streaming platform on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 4 p.m. KST.
