CS Video: The Lonely Island talks Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping
This weekend, Universal Pictures will unleash musical mayhem on an unsuspecting public as Andy Samberg and his The Lonely Island crew show you the REAL side of the music industry with their fake-as-hell documentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. We had the chance to sit down with musical digital-shorts superstars Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone to talk about their hilarious mockumentary, how it mirrors their own life, what was left on the cutting room floor (hint: a LOT) and the weirdest celebrity swag they’ve ever been given. Check out our video interview in the player below!
Universal Pictures’ Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all.
The latest comedy from blockbuster producer Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, Superbad, Knocked Up) co-stars Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows and Maya Rudolph and many of the biggest names in comedy and music in cameo performances. Co-directed by Schaffer and Taccone and written by The Lonely Island trio, the film is also produced by Rodney Rothman (producer of Get Him to the Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall; co-writer of 22 Jump Street), as well as Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone.
The film opens in theaters on Friday, June 3.
