While The Lonely Island member was set in the director’s chair in May 2019, it’s now been officially confirmed that Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) is helming a live-action/CGI hybrid film based on Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers with fellow Lonely Island member Andy Samberg and John Mulaney set to star!

Golden Globe winner Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Saturday Night Live, Palm Springs) and Emmy winner Mulaney (John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Big Mouth) will star in the title roles with Emmy nominee Seth Rogen (This Is the End, An American Pickle, Long Shot) appearing in a cameo.
Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers is slated for a spring 2022 release.

Created by Tad Stones and Alan Zaslove, the original series aired on The Disney Channel from 1989 to 1990 (a preview episode aired on August 27, 1988). It featured Chip ‘n Dale along with their friends Gadget Hackwrench, Zipper, and Monterey Jack as they faced off against some of the most outrageous villains the world has ever seen.
