In late 2010, ShockTillYouDrop.com was lucky enough to visit the Moscow-based set of Chris Gorak’s The Darkest Hour. Earlier this year, we brought you the first part of our report, featuring interviews with producers Tom Jacobson and Timur Bekmambetov. In the second part, we offered conversations with Gorak and the film’s cast, including Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Joel Kinnaman and Max Minghella. Today, we’re taking a look at some of the real-world locations that are featured in the December 25th release including Red Square, The Russian Science Academy, the Moscow Metro and the Russian State Library.
“Moscow is very photogenic,” says Jacobson. “It was very important for [Chris] to find locations that capture this city and that felt like you were really embedded in it, but also had scale and scope. Of course we shoot some of the icons locations like Red Square, but certain other places that you might not know as a foreigner or as a tourist. But the look is very unique to Moscow. You might look and not know the specific building, but the look is [there].”
