Michael B. Jordan’s Just Mercy streaming free for the month of June
Two months after director Destin Daniel Cretton’s Just Mercy had its early digital release in March, Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that the Michael B. Jordan-led film will now be available to rent for free on all digital platforms in the US, starting today until the end of this month. This is the studio’s way of helping people get educated about the country’s archaic systematic racism and injustices that are still clearly prevalent in today’s society. Just Mercy was based on Bryan Stevenson’s best-selling memoir of the same name. The story follows world-renowned civil rights defense attorney Stevenson (Jordan) as he recounts his experiences and details the case of a condemned death row prisoner whom he fought to free. The true story is one of redemption, passion, and mercy set against a backdrop of a corrupt judicial system which favors the death penalty and targets the poor.
Along with Jordan, the film also starred Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson, and Tim Blake Nelson, and was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), who previously worked with Larson on the films Short Term 12 and The Glass Castle. It’s co-written by Andrew Lanham (Glass Castle) and Cretton. Gil Netter, Asher Goldstein, and Jordan serve as the film’s producers.
