The Kaiju Score: Sony to Adapt Upcoming Comic Book Series Into Film

Following a competitive bidding war against other studios, Deadline brings word that Sony Pictures has successfully won the rights to AftersShock Comics’ forthcoming comic book series titled The Kaiju Score. The studio is planning to adapt the action thriller into a film with Escape Artists also boarding the project as a co-producer. The comic book is scheduled to launch this coming November 25.

Written by James Patrick (Grimm Fairy Tales, The Monsters of Jimmy Crumb) and illustrated by Rem Broo (Terminal Protocol), The Kaiju Score is being described as a Quentin Tarantino film taking place in some corner of a Godzilla movie. It will tell the story of the most dangerous heist ever attempted where four desperate criminals are going all-in on a once-in-a-lifetime chance to steal millions in art and turn their miserable lives around. The catch? They have to pull it off under the nose of a one thousand-ton kaiju. And a giant monster might just be the least of their problems.

The film adaptation will be produced by Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch along with Tony Shaw. AfterShock Comics’ Lee Kramer and Jon Kramer have also signed on to produce with Jiao Chen set to oversee the project on behalf of Sony.
