Netflix announced it will be bringing the Chinese live-action Dynasty Warriors film to the streamer on July 1.
The live-action Dynasty Warriors film premiered in Hong Kong on April 29. It then opened to mainland China the next day, on April 30. It was initially scheduled to premiere back in 2018. It then moved to a 2019 debut but was inevitably delayed to its 2021 release date.

Produced by Hong Kong company China 3D, the live-action Dynasty Warriors film was directed by Hin Yeung Chow. His wife, Christine To Chi-Long, wrote the screenplay. Both are known for their works on Murderer, Nightfall, and Rise of the Legend.
The film stars Louis Koo as Lu Bu, Kai Wang as Cao Cao, Ray Lui as Yuan Shao, Justin Cheung as Zhang Fei, Carina Lau as the Master of the Sword Forge Castle, and Tony Yo-ning Yang as Liu Bei. Albert Wing-Ho Lee and Chi-long To served as producers, while Jr. Stephen Siu was the executive producer of the film.
The live-action Dynasty Warriors film is based on the popular video game series of the same name. Originally created by Omega Force and Koei, the series is a spin-off of the strategy game series Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which is loosely based on the Luo Guanzhong novel. Unlike its strategy counterpart, the Dynasty Warriors games are known for their hack-and-slash mechanics.

Dynasty Warriors 9 is the most recent entry in the series. It is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Dynasty Warriors series itself has its own set of spin-offs. This includes the Nintendo Switch games Fire Emblem Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
