Blockbuster star Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to share a new major update on Warner Bros. Pictures’ long-in-development Black Adam movie, confirming that the DC film is currently on its final week of production in Atlanta. Before Black Adam started filming back in April, the project had first undergone a decade-long development process before it finally moved forward in 2017, where it officially announced Johnson as the DC villain/antihero.
In his post which you can check out below, Johnson also went on to tease how important and big the scenes that they are set to shoot this week, describing it as the culmination of all the hard work that they’d poured into developing the character and story as well as his intense training and diet for the role.

Black Adam will be led by Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam or the titular anti-hero, whose background story was first teased during 2019’s Shazam!. The marks the character’s live-action debut after only appearing in animated shows and films. The film adaptation is also set to feature the live-action film introduction of the Justice Society of America.
Joining Johnson is Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman. Other cast members include Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer, and Uli Latukefu in undisclosed roles.
The antihero was originally slated to make his highly-anticipated debut in 2019’s Shazam!, though the studio elected to split the characters off into individual films to allow them breathing room and proper development. Instead, they’ve just opted to tease the character with Djimon Hounsou’s original wizard Shazam narrating his origin story to Billy Batson.

Based on the DC Comics character created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck, the film is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Jungle Cruise) from a screenplay written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshiryani. It is produced by Johnson and FlynnPicturesCo’s Beau Flynn alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions, while Scott Sheldon will be overseeing the project for FlynnPictureCo.
Originally scheduled for December 2021 release, Black Adam has recently been pushed back to July 29, 2022.
