ComingSoon.net is saddened to report that Robert Downey Sr., filmmaker and the father of actor Robert Downey Jr., died Wednesday at the age of 85.
Downey Jr. confirmed the news in an Instagram post, sharing a photograph of his father while noting that Downey Sr. “passed peacefully in his sleep” after dealing with “the ravages of Parkinson’s” for some years.
“RIP Bob D. Sr. 1936-2021…Last night, dad passed peacefully in his sleep after years of enduring the ravages of Parkinson’s,” Downey Jr. wrote in his post. “…he was a true maverick filmmaker, and remained remarkably optimistic throughout…According to my stepmoms calculations, they were happily married for just over 2000 years. Rosemary Rogers-Downey, you are a saint, and our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
