Peacock has officially decided not to renew Soleil Moon Frye’s Punky Brewster revival series for a second season. The cancellation comes after nearly six months since the sitcom had debuted its 10-episode first season, making it the streamer’s first comedy series cancellation.
“Punky Brewster was a beloved series that tackled meaningful storylines with so much heart,” President of Scripted, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, Lisa Katz said in a statement (via Deadline). “It was a bright light for so many viewers and we are forever grateful to Universal Studio Group, the producers, the cast and crew and especially to Soleil Moon Frye for reigniting the Punky Power within everyone.”

The Punky Brewster revival featured the return of original series stars Soleil Moon Frye as the titular character, and Cherie Johnson as Punky’s best friend Cherie. It also starred Freddie Prinze Jr., Quinn Copeland, Noah Cottrell, Oliver De Los Santos, and Lauren Lindsey.
The official synopsis reads: “In this continuation of the iconic ’80s sitcom about a bright young girl raised by a foster dad, Punky is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets Izzy, a young girl in the foster system who reminds Punky a lot of her younger self.”

The Punky Brewster revival was written and executive produced by Steve and Jim Armogida. It is was also executive produced by Frye, original creator David Duclon and Main Event Media’s Jimmy Fox with UCP and Universal Television as producers.
The series was actually one of streamer’s many revival projects which include MacGruber, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air remake, and Saved by the Bell, which has already secured a second season renewal.
