In a tweet sent out earlier this morning, Netflix celebrated the deal, saying they were “thrilled” to have gotten it done. In a report from Deadline on the partnership, it was noted that Levy will begin work with an original untitled romantic comedy, that he’ll direct, write, produce, and star in. The report also notes that the deal will start in July 2022, when his current three-year deal with ABC ends.

“Netflix offered Schitt’s Creek a second home at just the right time and opened the doors to a whole new audience for us,” Levy said in a statement (via Deadline). “Watching the show thrive there has only enhanced my excitement about continuing to tell specific, meaningful stories with them in both tv and feature film. A full circle moment.”

Levy’s schedule will be incredibly busy, as he still has three live-action projects in development at ABC, as well as having signed on to produce an animated comedy for Hulu earlier this year. Now, he’ll partner with Netflix after coming out of an incredibly successful run on Schitt’s Creek. The series was a huge hit amongst audiences, with the final season of the series setting various records during the 2020 Emmy Awards, and Levy himself winning four awards, including one for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
