Ackles will join a cast that already includes the likes of Alec Baldwin, Travis Fimmel, Brady Noon, and Frances Fisher. The film is written and directed by Joel Souza, with Baldwin producing the film under his El Dorado Pictures banner alongside Matt DelPiano through Cavalry Media.
The film is set to follow the story of infamous western outlaw Harland Rust (Baldwin), who has lived his life with a bounty on his head. However, Rust eventually learns that his estranged 13-year-old grandson Lucas (Noon) was convicted of accidental murder and was sentenced to hang. This spurs Rust to travel to Kansas in an effort to break him out of prison, setting off a huge journey for the pair as they try to outrun U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Ackles) and bounty hunter Fenton “Preacher” Lang (Fimmel).

For Ackles, this marks the first film role he’s had since 2019’s Buddy Games, not counting his voice role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in 2021’s Batman: The Long Halloween. Ackles will also star in the upcoming third season of Amazon’s The Boys, where he’ll play the superhero Soldier Boy.
