Sony Wins Rights to Jennifer Lawrence-Led Comedy No Hard Feelings

Following a competitive bidding war against multiple streamers and studios, Deadline brings word that Sony Pictures has successfully won the rights to director Gene Stupnitsky’s new R-rated comedy film titled, No Hard Feelings. Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has signed on for the leading role in the project.

There is no target date yet for the start of its production, but it may potentially take a while before it moves into filming, because The Hunger Games vet is currently expecting her first child with husband, Cooke Maroney.

No Hard Feelings will be directed by Gene Stupnitsky from a screenplay he co-wrote with John Phillips, who is also set as an executive producer. It serves as Stupnitsky’s follow-up project to his 2019 feature directorial debut Good Boys. The film will be produced by Lawrence, Alex Saks, Marc Provissiero, Naomi Odenkirk and Justine Polsky.

The story is set to take place in Montauk, New York. Further details about its plot and Lawrence’s character is still being kept under wraps, but it’s being described as in the same vein as other comedy films such as Bad Teacher, There’s Something About Mary, and Risky Business.

Lawrence is no stranger to the comedy genre as she previously starred in film such as Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy. She will next be seen in Netflix’s star-studded dark comedy Don’t Look Up, Paul Sorrentino’s Mob Girl, and the biopic Bad Blood which will again reunite her with Adam McKay.
