Turner (Green Room) will star in the upcoming film set to be co-directed by Clooney and his Smokehouse partner Grant Heslov. The film is an adaptation of Daniel James Brown’s 2013 novel The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The film is set to be adapted into a screenplay by Mark L. Smith.
The novel (and subsequent film) tell the story of the underdog group of guys from the University of Washington men’s rowing team, who shocked the world by taking home the gold medal in the event at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. So far, Turner is the only confirmed member of the cast, with more likely to come in the future.

For Clooney, The Boys in the Boat has been on his radar for some time, as he was reportedly scheduled to direct the film last year but instead choice to direct the upcoming Tender Bar. Now, though, Clooney has found time for the project, and with no other films slated for him, now seems like the perfect time to get the film done.
