Following the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Dwayne Johnson has made a pledge to no longer use real firearms on the sets of his future films.

In an interview with Variety during the premiere of his film Red Notice, Johnson said that first and foremost, he was shocked and “heartbroken” by the news that Hutchins had been killed on the set of Alec Baldwin’s Rust. “First of all, I was heartbroken,” Johnson said. “We lost a life. My heart goes out to her family and everybody on set. I’ve known Alec, too, for a very long time.”
The actor and producer went on to say that going forward, he will only be using rubber guns on his sets and will make sure to enforce that rule with any studio he works with in the future. “I can’t speak for anyone else, but I can tell you, without an absence of clarity here, that any movie that we have moving forward with Seven Bucks Productions — any movie, any television show, or anything we do or produce — we won’t use real guns at all,” Johnson said.
“We’re going to switch over to rubber guns, and we’re going to take care of it in post,” he said. “We’re not going to worry about the dollars; we won’t worry about what it costs.”

As it stands, the rest of the film industry is still reeling from the sudden and shocking events that took place on the set of the film. While more information continues to come out, it’s clear that several actors and studios, Johnson included, are looking at ways they can improve things so that situations like this never arise again.
