It has been more than 30 years since the theatrical release of the classic action film Road House, and now MGM is in the process of developing a remake of the 1989 Patrick Swayze-led movie. According to Deadline, Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal is currently in negotiations for the leading role in the Road House remake, with The Bourne Identity filmmaker Doug Liman also in talks to helm the project.

The outlet notes that MGM is setting up the Road House remake as a high priority project, with the executive producers already searching for scribes to rewrite the previous draft, co-written by Anthony Bagarozzi, and Charles Mondry. Further details about its story and characters are still being kept under wraps.
The original film was directed by Rowdy Herrington. It starred Patrick Swayze as he portrayed the role of a bouncer named Dalton, who has been hired to clean up one of the rowdiest, loudest bars in Missouri, The Double Deuce. The late actor was also joined by Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliott, and Ben Gazzara.
