The Kanye West Netflix documentary Jeen-Yuhs is set to premiere next month on the streaming service. However, in a recent post, West has reached out to Netflix and asked for final edit on the project.

“I’m going to say this kindly for the last time,” said West in a post on Instagram. “I must get final edit and approval on this doc before it releases on Netflix. Open the edit room immediately so I can be in charge of my own image. Thank you in advance.”
It’s unclear if Kanye has any issues with the film as it stands or simply wants to look over the documentary prior to its launch, but it does seem as if the superstar wants some form of resolution before the February 16, 2022 release. It’s unknown if this will impact the release of Jeen-Yuhs in any way, but Kanye is known for working on projects that often result in them releasing a bit later than expected, so fans will have to keep an eye out on this as the situation develops.
Jeen-Yuhs spans over twenty years and features never-before-seen footage of the musician and fashion icon. The multi-part docuseries is being helmed by Clarence Simmons and Chike Ozah, who directed the third music video for “Jesus Walks” and “Through the Wire.” They previously did the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary Benji and A Kid From Coney Island that chronicles Stephon Marbury.
In an interview late last year, directors Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah spoke about the upcoming film, specifically noting that the documentary will cross over three separate generations of Kanye’s life.

“There’s a whole history lesson that’s happened,” Ozah says of the entire documentary. “We’re crossing generations in three films. At the end of the film, Kanye’s collaborating with artists that were babies. The crazy part is, Kanye’s a through-line. He’s still as relevant at the end as he is in the beginning because his music [has] passed the test of time.”
