According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rupert Friend (Hitman: Agent 47) has been tapped to star in Netflix’s forthcoming action sci-fi film Rebel Moon, which hails from Army of the Dead director Zack Snyder. Friend is set to portray the film’s main villain, described as a man who leads the armies and is expected to go up against Sofia Boutella’s leading character.
In addition, Scottish actor Stuart Martin has also been cast for an undisclosed villainous role, reuniting him with Snyder after last year’s Army of Thieves. Production is set to begin this April.
“The film is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius,” reads the synopsis. “They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the Tyrant.”
Described as a fantasy epic, Rebel Moon will be led by Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), Doona Bae (Sense8), and Ray Fisher (Zack Snyder’s Justice League). The film will be directed by Snyder from a screenplay he is co-writing with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, based on a story by Snyder and Johnstad.
