In an Instagram post showcasing her chair, Gillan celebrated wrapping up all of Nebula’s roles on the film. She also went on to say that she isn’t sure if Nebula will return in future films, but that if she doesn’t, she wanted to thank director James Gunn for giving her the chance to play an “interesting, complex, and fascinating character” in the first place.
“And that’s a wrap on Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3! I don’t know if Nebula will return beyond this, it’s possible that this is her final chapter,” said Gillan in the post. “And if that’s the case, then I just want to say thank you to James Gunn for giving me such an interesting, complex and fascinating character to play. I have enjoyed this exploration more than any other character I’ve played. That was one hell of a decade. Thanks for watching…”

It’s unknown what the future holds for this current iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, although James Gunn has outright said in the past that this upcoming third entry would likely be the last time fans see this current group of team members. While that could mean a number of things, it does certainly point to the fact that this might be the last time Nebula is seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for some time.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is once again written and directed by James Gunn. It features the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Sean Gunn, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel as they reprise their respective roles as Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Kraglin, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot.
Joining them are MCU newcomers Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji, with Poulter confirmed to be playing the role of Adam Warlock. Before the space-traveling team makes their return to the big screen, their Disney+ holiday special is expected to be released later this year.

The titular team was last seen in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame where they were joined by Chris Hemsworth’s Thor during the final moments of the film. Because of this, some of the Guardians of the Galaxy stars, including Pratt, Bautista, and Gillan, are set to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.
