Warner Bros. has won the rights to The Executioner, an upcoming action film starring Jason Momoa, according to a recent report from Deadline.

The film was acquired after what Deadline calls “an intense bidding war,” with Warner Bros. eventually coming out on top. The film’s official storyline is being kept under wraps, but will be written by Kaz and Ryan Firpo (Marvel’s Eternals), and is being billed as a “fun action murder mystery” that combines the feels of Knives Out with Lord of the Rings. No director or other actors are attached yet.
The Executioner is set to be produced by Peter Safran, who has worked with Momoa in the past on Aquaman, with Warner Bros. EVP Jesse Eherman also behind the film in some capacity. Besides being a producer on Aquaman, Safran has also been behind many of Warner Bros.’ recent big hits, including the Conjuring franchise, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and more.

For Momoa, this marks yet another big feature in his schedule, as he’s set to star in the upcoming film Slumberland later this year before appearing in the 2023 blockbusters Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and the tenth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast X.
