The Electric State: Michelle Yeoh & More Join Russo Brothers’ Star-Studded Netflix Movie

According to Deadline, Everything Everywhere All at Once star Michelle Yeoh, Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada), Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), Brian Cox (Succession), and Jenny Slate (I Want You Back) have joined the Russo Brothers’ next directorial project with Netflix in the form of the sci-drama drama film The Electric State. They will be joining previously announced leads Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown and Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Pratt.

Further details about Yeoh, Alexander, and Tucci’s characters are still being kept under wraps, but the outlet sources’ note that Cox and Slate might be lending their voices to CGI characters in the film. Production is expected to begin this fall.

“Set in a retro-futuristic past, The Electric State follows an orphaned teen (Brown) as she traverses the American West with a robot and an eccentric drifter in search of her younger brother,” reads the logline.

Based on the 2018 novel by Simon Stålenhag, The film adaptation will be directed by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo from a screenplay written by Endgame scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The project was previously set up at Universal Pictures.

The Russo Brothers will also be serving as producers along with Mike Larocca through their AGBO banner. Executive producers are Angela Russo-Otstot, Jake Aust, Geoff Haley, Markus, and McFeely, with Chris Castaldi and Patrick Newall serving as producers.

The Electric State film has been in development since 2017 and was originally set to be developed by IT duo Andy and Barbara Muschietti with Andy Muschietti serving as the director. However, Andy Muschietti decided to give up his directorial duties on the project in order to shift his focus on Warner Bros.’ highly-anticipated Flash movie.
