The film, which was first announced late last year, will tell the story of a group of Londoners during the aerial bombing of the city during the war. McQueen is set to direct, write, and produce the film, the first since his 2018 project Widows. Production on the film is said to begin sometime later this year, with a release date currently unannounced.
McQueen’s latest feature film was 2018’s Widows, but the director has been working since then, filming the 2020 BBC anthology series Small Axe, which told the story of West Indian immigrants in London from the 1960s to the 1980s. McQueen also directed the 2021 documentary series Uprising for BBC, which chronicled the aftermath of various events in the United Kingdom in 1981 that defined race relations in the country.
