While James Gunn is set to conclude his time at Marvel Studios after being named as one of the new heads of the newly revamped DC Studios, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is excited to see whatever his colleague does.

In a brief interview with Deadline during Wednesday’s premiere of the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Gunn was brought up to Feige, who joked that while he still had some work to do with Marvel Studios between now and May, he would be lining up to see what Gunn has in store for DC.
“Well, he has got a lot of work to do for Marvel between now and May, which he’s well aware of,” Feige joked. “But after that, I’ll be first in line to see anything he does.”
Gunn’s next two upcoming projects are both for Marvel Studios, both of which are set in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, with the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special set to debut on November 25, 2022, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releasing on May 5, 2023. Vol. 3 will be the last project Gunn works on for Marvel Studios for the time being.
Gunn’s departure from Marvel Studios comes after he and Peter Safran were named co-CEOs of the newly formed DC Studios. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn will focus on the creative side while Safran — a producer with credits on a ton of films, including past DC films Aquaman and Shazam! — will focus on the business and production side of the division.

The report mentions that both are still expected to continue directing and producing other projects. Also important to note is the fact that, according to early reports, the separate universes established at DC — including that of Todd Phillips’ Joker films — will not be overseen by Gunn and Safran. At this point, it’s unknown if Matt Reeves’ The Batman films will be, but any future DC project will be overseen by Gunn and Safran moving forward.
