Alita: Battle Angel Sequel Gets Update From Producer

Three years after the theatrical release of Alita: Battle Angel, producer Jon Landau has finally opened about the potential sequel to the Rosa Salazar-led sci-fi action film. Speaking with Deadline at the Avatar: The Way of Water premiere, Landau has confirmed that an Alita: Battle Angel sequel is one of the projects he’s hoping to work on soon, following the Avatar sequel. He revealed that discussions about the potential project are still ongoing with the first film’s director, Robert Rodriguez.

“Well there’s a little film called Alita: Battle Angel which we’d love to circle back and do a sequel to, and I’ve been talking to Robert [Rodriguez] about that and hopefully that comes to fruition,” Landau said.

The 2019 film was directed by Robert Rodriguez from a screenplay written by James Cameron, Laeta Kalogridis, and Rodriguez. Based on the manga series Gunnm by Yukito Kishiro, Alita: Battle Angel was produced by Cameron and Jon Landau.

Alita: Battle Angel also starred Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly (Top Gun: Maverick), Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Green Book), Ed Skrein (Deadpool), and Jackie Earle Haley. It was 20th Century Fox’s last film to release before its monumental Disney acquisition. The film earned a worldwide gross of over $405 million at the box office.
