Isabela Merced is set to co-star in the new Alien movie, with Deadline reporting that the talented actress will appear alongside the previously announced Cailee Spaeny in the film.
Merced began her career in 2013. Her biggest role to date was in 2022’s romantic comedy film Rosaline, which was based on the 2012 young adult novel When You Were Mine by Rebecca Serle, which itself was inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. In the film, Merced played the role of Juliet Capulet. She’s also notably starred in Dora and the Lost City of Gold and Sweet Girl.
The actress joins a film that is shrouded in much mystery. The only thing that’s known about the upcoming Alien movie is that it will be directed by Fede Álvarez. The director is best known for directing Don’t Breathe and 2013’s Evil Dead — both of which received positive critical reception upon release. Other than that, and the fact that the iconic Xenomorphs will once again appear in the film, not too much is known.
It is said to be “unconnected” to previous films. A fan of the iconic franchise himself, Álvarez had pitched a film idea to Scott several years ago in a casual conversation. This eventually led to Scott calling Álvarez last year to see if he was still interested and it was quickly set.
20th Century then picked up the new Alien movie due to the strength of Álvarez’s pitch, as it was a “really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before,” according to 20th Century’s Steve Asbell.
