Brian Cox: The Dangers of AI Is ‘The Worst Aspect’ of Actors Dispute

As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue, Succession star and longtime actor Brian Cox spoke about the dangers of AI, which he called the “worst aspect” of the strike.

Cox calls use of an AI an “unacceptable position”

During a recent appearance at a rally for Equity — the actor’s union in the United Kingdom — in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA, Cox rallied against the use of AI, which is one of the major sticking points of both ongoing strikes.

“That is a completely unacceptable position and is a position we should be fighting against,” said Cox (via Deadline). “That is the worst aspect. The wages are one thing, but the worst aspect is what AI can do to us.”

Cox also praised the rally as a whole. He noted it’s a “great thing” that everyone in the profession of acting “are all brothers and sisters.”

Alongside issues of AI, Cox also touched on the importance of residuals when it comes to acting. Specifically, Cox noted that things were a bit harder for actors in the United States due to the lack of national health care, something that made residuals even more important.

“SAG is an excellent union but in the U.S. we don’t have a national health service so what is important to SAG actors is health and they need that,” said Cox. “That’s why they need their residuals.”
