I like that I can keep finding ways to bring up John Carpenter in conversation and in work. Now, I’m armed with a Christmas conversation starter about the iconic director.
A Carpenter at Christmas
It turns out the other JC has a secret Christmas connection, and almost typically, it’s a musical one. Carpenter tweeted out a factoid about the classic festive tune Jingle Bell Rock.
Howard Carpenter also played violin on tracks for the likes of Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, and Roy Orbison. So perhaps it’s even less surprising John Carpenter is so musically inclined himself.
It’s been a big year for Carpenter as several of his films have celebrated notable anniversaries, he released a new album of reworked themes and returned to the director’s chair for the series John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams.
Next year could see the release of the video game John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, and more significantly, it will be the 50th anniversary of Carpenter’s feature-length directorial debut Dark Star.
